According to international agencies that track the orphan situation worldwide, there are more than 100,000,000 abandoned and orphaned children in the World today. If they held hands, the line would circle the Earth 3 times! It has been said that these orphaned and abandoned children comprise the single largest harvest field for the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but sadly it is generally a forgotten harvest field. In the countries where the need is the greatest, there is also a tremendous lack of orphanages that can adequately care for these children. In most cases, the existing homes are little more than “child warehouses”. These facilities are staffed by well-meaning people who genuinely have a heart for children but simply have no knowledge or training in how to provide Godly, nurturing care. They are simply overwhelmed. The cost of caring for these children is a tremendous challenge. The physical conditions in these homes are usually quite bad and the finances needed to transform these “warehouses” into “homes” is basically non-existent. The nutrition is far below any reasonable standards and the sanitary conditions are usually appalling.
We believe that something must be done to help the lost and dying homeless children. As Christians we believe that all children deserve a home where they can be raised in the “nurture and admonition of the Lord” [Eph 6:4]. This nurturing involves the whole being…spirit, soul and body. We must carry the Love of the Father to these little ones and demonstrate His Love by rescuing them and caring for them as unto the Lord. This means that they need a family environment …a Godly mother and father who model the family of God. If the Body of Christ would come together to rescue these children, many millions of children could be saved....but there has to be plan. A plan that can match resources from the US with the indigenous ministries in these 3rd World nations. Resources of finances, workers and training. White Stone Ministries has developed one such plan that can make a difference but we must work together with churches, ministries, businesses and individuals to make it happen.
